Depression

Depression is a manifestation of a profound imbalance between internal stress, emotional regulation, and physical stability. The holistic psychosomatic treatment at the Max Grundig Clinic addresses precisely those areas where withdrawal, exhaustion, and listlessness have taken hold.

Our multimodal, cross-departmental approach is interdisciplinary and integrative: Working closely with our colleagues in internal medicine and, when necessary, radiology, we assess somatic symptoms associated with depression and develop a personalized treatment plan.

What to Expect from Us

We individually tailor every therapy to you, your symptoms, and your needs, and we adapt the course of treatment and therapy plan to any new developments in your therapeutic process. In doing so, we are guided by the therapeutic goals previously established with you. The treatment proceeds in logically sequential steps.

The therapeutic process begins even before you are admitted to our facility: after you have decided to begin inpatient treatment, you typically contact us.

Planning the Stay for Depressive Symptoms

First, our patient management team provides information regarding the organizational framework. This is followed by a consultation with one of our specialists or psychotherapists. This session serves as an initial introduction, offering professional guidance and an assessment of the depression—or any other potential indication—for inpatient treatment at our facility.

Subsequently, our Patient Management team will clarify the further organizational steps (coverage of costs, specific admission date, etc.).

Inpatient Admission

At the beginning of your inpatient stay, we will conduct both a therapeutic and a medical admission interview  with you. Information from your questionnaire and your previous medical records will be incorporated into this process. Subsequently—and based on comprehensive diagnostic measures (medical history taking, psychological testing, and further examinations)—we will work together with you to create a weekly therapy plan tailored specifically to your needs and to define your therapeutic goals. You will be actively involved in your therapy process right from the very start.

End of Therapy and Return Home

Fundamentally, the therapy for depressive symptoms, lack of drive, and exhaustion aims to (re)strengthen your sense of self-efficacy and personal responsibility during your stay, and to equip you with effective coping strategies for future emotional crises.

Towards the end of your treatment, we conduct an individualized relapse prevention program with you and prepare you specifically for the post-inpatient phase. As part of this process, we also explore the possibility of continued outpatient treatment—or facilitate contact with your previous outpatient provider—to ensure coordination and a smooth transition back into your familiar home environment.

    Coverage of Costs

If a declaration of coverage has been issued, private health insurance providers generally cover the full cost of inpatient treatment. As supplementary costs may arise for patients covered under civil service aid schemes (Beihilfe), we recommend contacting your Beihilfe office in advance to clarify which costs will be covered. Our patient management team will be happy to provide guidance and support throughout this process.
