Our holistic orthopedic department at the Max Grundig Klinik offers the entire spectrum of orthopedic care. We address your individual health needs: the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of both congenital and acquired structural or functional disorders of the musculoskeletal system—including bones, joints, muscles, and tendons.

Senior Physician, Orthopedics

Dr. René Malzkorn is a specialist in surgery and orthopedics.

From 1986 to 1989, Dr. med. René Malzkorn completed his training as a physiotherapist at the medical facilities of the University of Düsseldorf.

From 1990 to 1998, he pursued his medical studies at the University of Düsseldorf, followed by the completion of his doctoral thesis. Subsequently, he undertook specialist training in surgery at the Calw Hospital. From 2003 to 2011, Dr. Malzkorn worked in the Department of Orthopedics — specifically the Division of Spine Surgery — at the SRH Hospital Karlsbad-Langensteinbach, serving as a Senior Physician from 2006 onwards. Among other responsibilities, he directed the outpatient clinic for interventional medicine and the pediatric clinic for spinal deformities.

Since 2011, Dr. Malzkorn has operated his own private practice in Nagold, specializing in conservative treatment methods; during this same period, he has also served as a consulting physician at the Max Grundig Clinic.

The orthopedic examination reveals limitations in spinal mobility and indications of inflammatory changes. The rheumatological workup complements these findings with typical laboratory results and imaging signs of a chronic inflammatory disease.

Both departments consolidate their findings and jointly assess the course and activity of the condition. Ultimately, the symptoms are classified as Bechterew’s disease. This diagnosis places the symptoms within a medically coherent context and provides clarity for subsequent coordinated treatment.

The orthopaedic examination reveals degenerative changes in the spine, with a suspected narrowing of the spinal canal. The neurological assessment confirms stress-induced neurological deficits and typical findings on imaging.

Both departments collate the results and jointly assess the symptoms, findings and clinical course. The symptoms are indicative of spinal stenosis. The diagnosis provides a medically sound explanation for the various limitations and enables targeted and coordinated treatment.
